CERTIFICATION TESTING
All testing is done to determine Natural Ability. Undue Handling is off-scored during
testing.
Anybody can present a Labrador for Certification Testing. Dogs are viewed by one or more Judges at a time mutually convenient to all people. Tests are private, if requested.
All tests are conducted in as Objective, Scientific, Non-Competitive and Non-Political manner as is possible.
Tests are conducted under Standardized Conditions, so that tests are comparable region- to-region and season-to-season. Field topography, Ground Cover and Scent Source are standardized as much as possible.
Data regarding Uncontrollable Factors is recorded for Handicapping, to further reduce unpredictable variance. Typical factors are Wind Speed, Temperature and Relative Humidity.
The game used is common pigeon or domestic rabbit for National Ranking. Regional Ranking is awarded for other game.

STAKES The following levels are taken in sequence. Dogs that are out of age bracket can be tested and certified with prior clearance from a Judge.
Reported Pointer (RP) For deceased dogs who have been witnessed pointing wild game under field conditions by two unrelated third-party witnesses.
Novice Pointer (NP) Certification of pointing skills only. Pass/Fail performance standards. Principally a natural ability test. Pup must point a minimum of 3 seconds one time. The pup can not be tested before 6 months of age or after 18 months of age without clearance by the judge. Only one judge is required.
Certified Pointer (CP) Certification for pointing and retrieving. Dogs must satisfactorily complete 2 marks each on water and land, point for 5 seconds two times and be steady to wing. Dogs must have passed NP and be a minimum of 12 months of age. Two judges are required.
Dual Purpose (DP) Certification for pointing, retrieving and tracking. Dog must satisfactorily complete 3 marks and blinds each on water and land, and follow 3 tracks, one beyond turn. Dogs must have passed CP and be 24 months of age minimum. Three judges are required.
Mistreatment of dogs or game animals is grounds for ejection from the field and revocation of certifications.
COSTS
All dogs are tested by appointment only, at a location and time mutually agreeable to the
owner, handler and judges.
Fees RP $ 50.00 NP 50.00 CP 125.00 DP 250.00
Fees include Birds, Judge Compensation, DataBase Registration and Score Confirmation. Presentation Grade Certifications are issued for a $25.00 imprinting fee. Completed Field Sheets are returned to the IPLA and a copy of the Field Sheet and a Performance Confirmation is mailed to the Registered Owner.

JUDGESPlease check Time Zones prior to contacting Judges. Please call at Responsible Hours.Judges are expected to locate and secure permission for topographically appropriate fields for Testing Sites; to secure and transport Game to the testing site; to administer the test in a Timely Fashion with respect for Game, Dogs, Handlers and Owners. AKC Registrations must be furnished. Trial Etiquette follows AKC Field Trial
Standards.
Dogs may be tested as often as the Owner/Handler desires on three month intervals.
Dogs are controlled by whistle or voice only; no collars of any type are allowed.
