You have it figured out Greydude.

The trainer has a problem. You said: "I don't know much about the method these pro trainers use but when she returns from a retrieve if she dose not sit on the whistle the very second she hears it she gets the side of his foot in the chest. Is that normal?"

No it is not normal. It is stupid and abuse. The dog is learning, though. This trainer has trained your dog to avoid him/her. Luckily, so far, the dog retains her love of you and retrieving. Go get the dog ASAP before she has a broken rib and train her yourself or find a real dog trainer.

Neither FF nor ecollars are necessary. Some dogs will not handle ecollars unless the trainer is especially skilled, at least a few won't at all. I have no idea how many are that skilled but there are many that are not.

What are you hopes for this gal? FTs, HTs, just hunting???
